Fingerprint-CMYK-all 4What’s the best option for you?

As a print and mail provider, we get questions all the time about coatings, Pantone colors, textures, sizes and all sorts of “technical printing stuff. So we want to share the differences between the two main types of print: Offset and Digital.

As digital technologies have improved, the gap between offset and digital has narrowed tremendously. In fact, marketers and recipients can rarely tell the difference. But there is still a need for both.  For a few tips to help you make the right decision…

Offset Printing:

The original “modern” Printing Press where ink is applied to rolls, which is then applied to paper.
PROS:
  • Most accurate method of color reproduction
  • You can specify Pantone colors
  • Traditionally meant for larger quantity runs of 8,000-10,000+

CONS:

  • Slower turnaround times
  • Should not print just one copy as printing plates need to be created
  • Runs below 500 are often cost prohibitive

Digital Printing:

Originally created to “proof” work before going to press, digital printing is becoming the “go to” print method for many businesses:
PROS:
  • Fast turnaround times – no ink to dry
  • Optimal for smaller quantities of 5,000 or less
  • Only need 1 copy? No problem!

CONS:

  • Color accuracy and consistency usually varies 5-10% depending on the printer used
  • Pantones are not available
  • Finishes and coatings are limited on digital print

We’re here to help you navigate which print option will work best for you!
